Recently, the Braemar Group of the United Kingdom announced that a new LNG tank containment system designed by the group will soon be approved by the French Bureau of Shipping (BV).
During the international shipping week in London on September 11-15, Braemar Engineering's president Andy Bright said that the new system to be approved is particularly suitable for small LNG operations, including small LNG carriers and LNG fuel storage and Refill facility.
As early as 2014, the Braemar Group and General Dynamics NASSCO Shipyard reached an agreement to design and build a flat semi-membrane prismatic (FSP) LNG fuel tank containment system. Authorized by NASSCO Shipyard, Braemar Group also cooperates with Shanghai Space Agency of China to produce prototype fuel tanks.
It is reported that the B-type LNG fuel tank containment system uses the latest flat panel technology and adopts flat panel, semi-film and diamond design. Overcoming some related filling and sloshing problems, it can be separately constructed, assembled, insulated and tested from the hull, and then re-hoisted into the hull, greatly reducing the ship construction time.
Denis Petropoulos, president of Braemar Transportation Services, stated, “The new containment system we are designing is groundbreaking. We have extensive experience working with major LNG shipyards in Korea, Japan and China, and have been involved in the conversion and Building FSU and FSRU."
Recently, Braemar Transportation Services announced that it has decided to acquire NAVES Finance, a private limited liability company, established in 2009 to target the global ship financing market.
