Alfa Laval launches blue box bilge water discharge recorder

The number of cases of severe penalties for discharging bilge water with excessive oil content into the ocean has increased; the phenomenon of fuel-based record book fraud has also become more frequent; these situations have attracted the attention of more and more shipping companies. Recently, the whistle-blowing report of the reporters and the subsequent lawsuits clearly indicate that extra care must be taken for the entire process of bilge oil discharge management. To this end, Alfa Laval has launched the BlueBox bilge oil effluent data recorder, which can eliminate such unpleasant violations and accidents in the future.

As a PureBilge system data recorder, the blue box can not only record the oil content of the bilge water, but also record the GPS position, the operation of the separator, the complete alarm log, the position of the outboard valve, and the data such as the bilge water discharge.

The system uses high-precision electromagnetic control to accurately record the bilge water discharge flow and also record the total flow. To prevent mishandling or tampering, the actual position of the outboard valve is also recorded. If the flow meter is in the recirculation position when the flow is recorded, the software will sound an alarm and the system will shut down. The flowmeter contains no moving parts and has an extremely long service life.

The recorded data includes the time when the outboard drainage started, the reading of the oil content meter in one drainage cycle, the total amount of water discharged from the outboard, and the time when the outboard drainage stopped. The information is stored in encrypted form for at least 18 months and can be downloaded to a USB memory.
