Japan's largest information technology provider, NEC Corp. said recently that it has built an artificial intelligence system that allows users to quickly search for CCTV cameras and identify specific people among millions of faces.

The application, called NeoFace Image Data Mining, allows people to search for missing and wanted children, all using data from video surveillance. According to the company's staff, "it takes only 10 seconds to locate a person from a million people." A video of 1 million faces can be equivalent to a 24-hour CCTV. NeoFace can also search from multiple video sources.

According to NEC, the system can also identify a particular person at a given time and place, without affecting others if they are nearby. This feature will help police investigate the crime scene or help store owners identify thieves.

The system through the tree data management structure to the video in all kinds of images according to the similarity classification. The longer it takes, the more lenses the system analyzes, the more accurate it is. Coupled with the professional training of its staff, so the system can do real-time recognition of the face, the company said.

Yuichi Nakamura is the general manager of NEC's Green Platform Research Laboratory. He said the technology can help computers identify suspicious behavior.

"Some people are very suspicious of people coming in and out of a region without permission, and you can discover them with our technology, which helps police find out more quickly or prevent their crime ahead of time."

China has also acted in this area.

Last week, Hangzhou Hikvision announced a partnership agreement with Movidius on CCTVAI Software. Movidius develops computer vision application chips and has applied his own research in artificial intelligence to unmanned vehicles, drones and VR devices.

Movidius' Myriad2 vision processing chip uses deep neural networks and a series of algorithms that scan the lens to "detect anomalies such as suspicious backpacks, drivers who are distracted by mobile devices, and intruders trying to access secure areas."

However, every improvement means that our privacy will be further threatened. Hope that when the company strides forward, but also for the general public to take this into account.
