Recently, Daimler, Ford and Nissan announced a strategic partnership to jointly develop fuel cell technology. They hope to achieve significant cost reduction through joint collaborative technology development and common manufacturing platforms. The three parties also reached a consensus that in 2017, the first fuel cell vehicles will be produced that are price-friendly. At the same time, the three companies also hope to establish technical and specification standards for fuel cell vehicles and become the industry leader.
"In the future, the world of automobiles will eventually be fuel cell vehicles." This is a common understanding of these three companies. The principle of the fuel cell vehicle is that the hydrogen fuel in the vehicle fuel cell stack electrochemically reacts with the oxygen in the air, the current is released to provide power for the vehicle, and only the water vapor and heat are generated in the product, which will not pollute the environment. Fuel cell vehicles are considered as a supplement to battery-only electric vehicles.
In fact, fuel cell vehicles are not new. Among the three automobile companies, Daimler has already gone very far in this area. The fuel cell vehicle F-cell has been pilot operated and is on the bus. There are also trial runs. However, due to the high cost, it is still very difficult to produce a fuel cell vehicle that consumers can afford. What these three companies hope to do is to develop fuel cell vehicles that can be mass-produced before Toyota and Hyundai.
However, some U.S. media are not optimistic about this. They solemnly reprimanded: "In the end, Daimler, Ford and Nissan will have more than 60 years of experience in the cooperative research and development of fuel cells."
