The docking industry is in urgent need of traceability calibration services for industrial CT

[China Instrument Network Instrument R&D] Recently, the Shanghai Institute of Metrology and Measurement Technology Research Institute of Mechanical Manufacturing was commissioned by the customer to perform project acceptance of its newly purchased industrial CT system in accordance with the agreed technical specifications of both parties.

Industrial CT is an abbreviation of Industrial Computed Tomography. It can perform comprehensive and high-precision measurement of all internal and external dimensions of a test object without damaging the test object. It can also analyze defects in the material of a workpiece and solve plastic problems. Innovative measurement methods for the detection of complex structures, small dimensions (such as fuel injectors), and internal dimensions of composite materials in the fields of engineering, aerospace, automotive, and electronics. At present, the traceability calibration technology of industrial CT is still in the research stage. China released the relevant national standards in 2017, but the corresponding calibration specifications are still in the process of formulation.

In order to successfully carry out this service, the engineers of the Shanghai Institute of Metrology and Measurement Technology Machinery Institute seriously studied the national standards, and repeatedly communicated with equipment suppliers and users to clarify the performance characteristics of the industrial CT system and the user's use requirements. The Institute of Metrology and Measurement Technology has conducted detailed traceability and calibration of various indicators of the industrial CT system in the field of non-contact measurement technology and experience, and successfully completed project acceptance.

This service demonstrated the innovative service spirit of the Shanghai Metrology and Testing Technology Research Institute for the urgent needs of the docking industry and the initiative to improve the supply of metering tests. It not only created a good start for the Shanghai Institute of Metrology and Measurement Technology to carry out research and service of industrial CT traceability calibration, but also accumulated the construction of industrial CT laboratory for the second phase of Zhangjiang, Shanghai Institute of Metrology and Measurement Technology, and accumulated complex geometric quantity non-destructive testing business. The experience will help further improve the energy level of the Shanghai Institute of Metrology and Measurement Technology in the field of length measurement and better serve the construction of the Shanghai Science and Technology Center.
