JCB Releases New Job Safety PBS System for Wheel Loaders

In February 2017, JCB released a new operating safety system for wheel loaders that can reduce the risk of collisions between people and machines that may occur during equipment operation.

The work safety system was developed in cooperation with JCB and the British FCC environment and named Active Brake Guard System (PBS). When someone enters the preset equipment operation area, it will immediately activate the sound alarm in the cab and automatically implement braking. . In addition, the PBS system automatically places the transmission in the neutral gear and activates the parking brake. At the same time, a vibratory transponder placed in a safety helmet will give a warning to pedestrians in a dangerous area to prompt pedestrians to leave the dangerous area.

Currently, the PBS system is available on the JCB wheel loader 457 and will be used on all wheel loader models in the near future.

At the same time, the vibration transponder communicates with the device, triggering an audible alarm in the cab, alerting the driver to potential danger of collision, and automatically applying braking to stop the device from moving. The event, including date, time information, etc., will be recorded in the MCU of the device to further investigate the reasons for pedestrians entering the danger zone, thereby enhancing the future site safety management level.

The JCB PBS system can realize the installation of multiple equipments on one site, especially for large-volume work areas such as waste recycling projects. However, the installation of this system requires a detailed assessment of the site's operating environment, sidewalks, traffic routes, and other factors that may affect the operation of the equipment.
