In recent years, the Japanese government has vigorously promoted bioplastics. Plastics with little difference between these appearances and common plastics but beneficial to the environment are expected to be one of the ways to solve white pollution.

In spite of this, Japan currently faces two major problems in the promotion of bioplastics: First, the price issue, bioplastics is now 2-3 times higher than the price of ordinary plastics, hindering the rapid spread of such materials, but industry insiders predict that Once bioplastics enter the mass production stage, the cost can be greatly reduced. Second, bioplastics and biofuels may compete with others for food. Biofuels come from food crops such as corn and wheat, which will drive up world food prices, such as corn. Bioplastics produced from raw materials may also cause the same problem. At present, scientists from Japan, the United States, and other countries have begun to produce bioplastics from waste wood, weeds, etc. Many experts are optimistic about this direction of bioplastics.
