International standards promote positive changes

October 14 is the World Standards Day, and the theme of this year's World Standards Day is "International standards promote positive changes."

International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Telecommunication Union (ITU) 2013 World Standards Day message:

At present, the international community must not only face the changes in the global market, but also maintain a balance between the world economy's recovery and the effective response to climate change. In this complex situation, international standards are the most powerful means of opening the global market, creating a good business climate, stimulating economic growth, mitigating and adapting to climate change, and leading to positive changes.

International standards are the consensus reached by the world's best experts. They range from energy, energy efficiency, transportation, management systems, climate change, health care, security, and information and communication technologies. For the common good of the public, experts from all walks of life contribute their professional knowledge, jointly formulate standards, share technological innovation achievements with other countries in the world, and provide a solid platform for positive changes by companies, governments, and society.

Standards provide best practice experience for the rapid economic development of developing countries, and avoid these countries from repeatedly doing "useless work." Given the close relationship between economic growth and urbanization, the importance of standardization to urban infrastructure intelligence and sustainable development has become increasingly prominent, providing strong support for building a better city.

International standards also provide important guarantees for more disabled people to enjoy better products, services and living conditions.

At the same time, standards are the way to delay climate change and play an important role in improving energy efficiency, reducing waste of resources, and greenhouse gas emissions. They can provide best practices for renewable energy and bring the most to waste disposal and recycling.
