Hewlett-Packard rebuilt the old personal computer and will create a $1,899 PC portfolio that will incorporate all the features of the 3D scanner and projector, hoping to rekindle the meager industry interests. The new desktop computer is called budding and began selling online on Wednesday. HP also announced that it will begin to share 3D printing technology that has been developed for many years. The company claims that the technology can make the print speed 10 times faster and much cheaper than the current product, which was tentatively scheduled for 2016.
Like many competitors and HP, stagnant PC business still constitutes half of the income. HP hopes that the new computer will rekindle customer interest. Sprout sits on Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system. HP executives demonstrated that pens, cups, figurines, and images of various objects can be scanned and edited and can be emailed or shared via social media. Hewlett-Packard said that the initial production operation will be a small quantity, but if the market needs it, it can be increased proportionally. The key is to attract developers to design software that can take 3D capabilities for a new budding market or application store.
