On May 7 th , the Symposium on Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Birth of the Small Nitrogenous Fertilizer Industry held in Xi'an was a joyous one. The China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association awarded to the 82 industry seniors who had made outstanding contributions to the development of the nitrogen fertilizer industry a “Lifetime Honor Awardâ€, 118 Corporate leaders awarded the "Outstanding Contribution Award." The former minister of the Ministry of Chemical Industry Gu Xiulian praised the nitrogen fertilizer industry has fundamentally solved the shortage of long-term supply of chemical fertilizers in China and made outstanding contributions to safeguarding China's food supply.
Fifty years ago, the small nitrogen fertilizer industry broke the foreign technology blockade, passed the technical barriers, raw materials, and economic barriers. Starting from a test volume of 2,000 tons/year, the output has long dominated the chemical fertilizer industry, making China's chemical fertilizer imports dependent on imports. Sufficient supply to date has made outstanding contributions to agricultural production. According to the data provided by China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, in 2007, there were 470 small nitrogenous fertilizer companies across the country, producing 35.698 million tons of synthetic ammonia, accounting for 69.1% of the total output of synthetic ammonia in the country; 132 small urea enterprises nationwide, with output of 28.981 million tons, accounting for the entire country. 58.1% of the total output; 332 small nitrogen fertilizer enterprises producing ammonium bicarbonate, output 30.766 million tons, accounting for 93.9% of the country's total output; 22 small nitrogen fertilizer enterprises with annual profits exceeding RMB 100 million, and 42 with more than RMB 50 million. There are 100 more than 750 million.
Li Yongwu, president of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, said that the small nitrogen fertilizer industry has gradually been on a scale and up-graded, and the traditional concept of “small nitrogen fertilizer†is gradually being replaced by the concept of nitrogen fertilizer industry. From the current point of view, the entire nitrogen fertilizer industry energy consumption and environmental issues are still outstanding. In 2007, 543 companies in the nitrogen fertilizer industry consumed natural gas, anthracite coal, and electricity, which accounted for 15.7%, 13.5%, and 2.22% of the national total, respectively. Therefore, we must solve the two bottlenecks of energy consumption and environmental protection as soon as possible to ensure the sustainable and rapid development of the nitrogen fertilizer industry.
Gu Xiulian said that the spirit of “hard work and continuous innovation†should be promoted throughout the industry, take the road of circular economy, form a group of integrated technologies with independent intellectual property rights as soon as possible, and resolutely curb blind investment and establish a reasonable access to the nitrogen fertilizer industry. Withdrawal mechanisms have enabled the entire nitrogen fertilizer industry to embark on scientific development.
