Wenmeiike, vice president and general manager of US Novochem, announced in Shanghai last week that Novo (Shanghai) Special Polymer Co., Ltd.'s thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) plant was put into operation in Songjiang, Shanghai.
According to reports, this is Nobel's first polymer manufacturer in China, with a total investment of approximately US$10 million to produce special polyurethanes with its own technology, including soft grade TPU, temperature-resistant TPU, breathable TPU, aliphatic TPU, TPUSpandex Fibers and TPU polyolefin alloys. Its production capacity is one-third of Nobel’s total global production of thermoplastic polyurethanes. 50% of its products are supplied to China and 50% to Asian countries.
At the same time, Winmax also announced that an application testing laboratory has been built together with the Songjiang plant to provide customers with product development and technical services according to their needs. Last year, Novo Chemical was acquired by the American listed company Lubrizol, which made Lubrizol the world's fourth-largest specialty chemicals company. Lubrizol’s turnover was 3.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2004. In order to maintain its leading position in the global thermoplastic polyurethane market, Novo Chemicals sees an increase of 11% to 13% in the Chinese market, accelerating the establishment of a factory in Shanghai and becoming the first multinational company to build a thermoplastic polyurethane in China.
