Power storage technology (EES) plays an important role in future low-carbon power systems. The cost analysis of power storage technology can give policy makers, investors and scientists a certain direction.
In view of this, Imperial College O. Schmidt et al. analyzed the future cost of 11 electrical energy storage technologies based on existing data and empirical curves.

This analysis covers existing major power storage technologies, from mobile portable electronic devices, transportation to large-scale power grid infrastructure, including: pumped storage technology, lead-acid battery technology (shared), and lead-acid battery technology ( Residential), lithium-ion battery (electronic device), lithium-ion battery ( electric vehicle ), lithium-ion battery (residential), lithium-ion battery (common), Ni-metal hydride (electric vehicle), vanadium flow battery ( Common), electrolytic cell (common), fuel cell (for residential use).
The bottom-up evaluation of materials and production costs shows that once each technology reaches a capacity configuration of 1 TWh, the infrastructure cost of a fixed installation system will reach 340 ± 60 US dollars kWh-1, and the battery packaging cost will reach 175 ± 25 US dollars kWh- 1, this is not impossible!

The cumulative investment in each technology will reach $1,750-510 billion to enable capacity deployment of 1 TWh. According to market forecasts, this will not be realized until 2027-2040.
The increasing competitiveness of new technologies in environmental protection and high-capacity storage may accelerate the reduction of costs and advance the new energy era in advance!
