Chen Hongda and Chen Xiongbin, researchers at the State Key Laboratory of Integrated Optoelectronics, Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences, have been engaged in the research of visible light communication technology since 2008. They have presided over the important direction of knowledge innovation project of Chinese Academy of Sciences under visible light communication, Visible light communication research field "973", "863" and Other scientific research tasks. Chen Xiongbin chaired the Beijing Science and Technology Plan project "indoor high-speed visible light communication system transceiver devices and switching technology research and development" (the implementation of the period January 2014 to December 2015) has been completed as planned. The research team entrusted MIIT's China Tel Labs to conduct a third-party test of one-way real-time 610Mbps visible light communication with the following results:

The real-time transmission rate of single-channel real-time transmission under OOK modulation is 610Mbps based on a 1-watt fluorescent white LED and PIN detector. The average bit error rate is on the order of 3.5e-5 at a transmission distance of 6.2m, much lower than that of forward error correction Bit error rate limit requirements 3.8e-3.

Based on the high-speed real-time transmission of visible light communication technology research foundation, the research team set up the following types of visible light communication demonstration system:

1. Bidirectional symmetrical 100Mbps lighting system based on 1W fluorescent white LED and PIN detector.

2. Bi-directional symmetrical 10Mbps population-based lighting system based on 1W blue LED and PIN detector.

3. Based on fluorescent white LED and PIN detector cell phone visible light communication system and multimedia broadcasting system.

Chen Xiongbin believes that this new technology of wireless optical communication of visible light communication is more in line with the development direction (high speed, large capacity and safety) of wireless communication technology than the traditional radio communication technology and will spawn many innovative applications in the future. China has a large number of LED companies and the vast semiconductor lighting market, this basic advantage is difficult to match other countries. The practical research of visible light communication technology should arouse people's attention.
